About the role
You’ll own the services that turn raw carrier signals — AIS pings, EDI milestones, gate events — into routes and arrival predictions that 140 companies plan their weeks around. The stack is Go, Postgres, ClickHouse, and Kafka on AWS; the team is five engineers who prefer deleting code to adding it.
This is a senior seat on a small crew: you’ll shape architecture, not just implement it, and your design docs will be read by everyone from the CTO to customer ops.
What you’ll do
- Design and run the ETA pipeline end to end — ingestion to prediction to the board.
- Model the routing graph for ocean, rail, and road legs, transshipments included.
- Make backfills and reprocessing boring: idempotent jobs, versioned models.
- Own reliability for services with a 99.9% target — the on-call is calm and paid.
- Profile and tune the ClickHouse queries that feed live boards.
- Write design docs the whole crew can read, then hold the line on them.
What we’re looking for
- 6+ years building backend systems that ran in production, under load, with your name on them.
- Deep comfort with data pipelines at scale — Kafka or something like it.
- Strong SQL and sharp schema instincts.
- You’ve carried a pager and left it quieter than you found it.
- Clear async writing — we’re a remote-first crew and the doc is the meeting.
Nice to have
- Geospatial or graph-routing experience.
- You’ve touched maritime data before: AIS, EDIFACT, port EDI.
- Forecasting or applied-ML adjacency.
- Open-source work we can go read.
Compensation & benefits
Base salary is $165k–$205k depending on level and location, plus equity of 0.15%–0.40% with a 10-year exercise window. Full benefits are listed on the jobs page — the short version: real PTO, real stipends, real health cover.
