Product Designer

About the role

You’ll be our second designer, working alongside Maren, our Design Lead, and owning flows end to end — from ride-along research with logistics teams to the shipped UI. Windrose is a dense-data product: boards, timelines, exception queues. The craft here is making a thousand rows feel like one calm answer.

You’ll also help grow Chartroom, our design system, so the product keeps feeling like one hand drew it.

What you’ll do

  • Run discovery with logistics teams — ride-alongs, board reviews, support-ticket archaeology.
  • Design dense, legible data UI: tables, timelines, and exception queues that read at a glance.
  • Extend Chartroom with documented, accessible components.
  • Prototype at whatever fidelity gets the answer fastest — paper to code.
  • Ship with engineers weekly, then sand the edges after launch.
  • Help define what “calm software” means for operations work.

What we’re looking for

  • 4+ years designing B2B or data-heavy product.
  • A portfolio that shows systems thinking, not just polished screens.
  • Comfort making tables, charts, and empty states genuinely legible.
  • You write clearly and present your own work.
  • You’ve worked elbow-to-elbow with engineers in short cycles.

Nice to have

  • You prototype in code — HTML/CSS or React.
  • Time spent in logistics, fintech ops, or another gloriously unglamorous domain.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2).
  • You’ve tended a pattern library before and it survived you leaving.

Compensation & benefits

Base salary is $120k–$155k depending on level and location, plus equity of 0.08%–0.20% with a 10-year exercise window. Full benefits are on the jobs page.

How we hire

  1. Intro call with Maren, our Design Lead (30 min).
  2. Portfolio walkthrough — you drive (60 min).
  3. Paid design working session on a real board problem (3 h).
  4. Crew conversations and offer (2 × 30 min).

The working session is paid and time-boxed — no spec work, no unpaid take-homes. We reply to every application within five business days.

Design for people with radios on their hips.

Send a portfolio and a short note about a dense interface you made calmer. We care more about the thinking than the pixels — though we do love pixels.
